Work Zone Safety

Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility, especially for drivers who play a crucial role in protecting workers on the job. Tragically, the life of Andrew DiDomenico, a dedicated worker for the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT), was taken while doing his job. This incident highlights the importance of being aware and cautious in work zones. Drivers must stay alert, follow posted speed limits, and never get behind the wheel under the influence. Workers have families who depend on them and deserve to return home safely at the end of each day. Give them the space they need to do their jobs, and remember—accidents are preventable when we all make safety a priority.

Connecticut's "Real Lives" campaign is a powerful initiative that highlights the importance of road safety, particularly for emergency responders and roadside workers. These workers have lives outside of work, and they don't want to lose. it. Through personal stories, real workers—such as tow truck drivers, police officers, paramedics, and firefighters—share their experiences and urge drivers to slow down and move over when approaching an emergency scene. These workers are often at risk while performing their jobs on the side of the road, and the campaign emphasizes the life-threatening dangers they face daily. By showcasing these real-life testimonies, the campaign calls on motorists to be more vigilant, reduce their speed, and, when possible, change lanes to give emergency vehicles and workers the space they need. This effort aims to increase awareness of the state's "Slow Down, Move Over" law, ensuring the safety of those who help others during their most critical moments.
